Panda House by DA-LAB Arquitectos
In Playa Blanca de Asia, Peru, you’ll find a beautiful house with an unusual name. Panda House is a renovation project meant to serve the needs of a contemporary family, while bringing a tribute to its history and surroundings. According to the architects, the “top priority was to keep the spirit of the existing house”.
Minimalism Intertwined With A Coastal Vibe
The most eye-catching design element of the Panda House is its false ceiling made of cane. It has an beautiful contrasting relationship with the white, minimalist walls. The composition is based on dichotomy, light versus massive, texture versus simplicity.
Light As A Design Element In Panda House
Natural light is an important design element. It is the common denominator in the composition. During the day, a texture of light and shadow invades the interior of the Panda House.
Warm Versus Cold
The strong relationship between the two materials continues inside the Panda House. The white, minimalist walls inspire a certain coldness, counterbalanced by the warmth of the cane ceiling.

According to DA-LAB Arquitectos, the “double height space is ‘the soul of the house’ “. The space organizes and connects all the common areas.

Spaces with different functionalities share a strong visual connection. Functional areas and circulation are defined by manipulating the materiality of the ceiling.

Beams are used to provide further definition of the functional areas. They also add a sense of enclosure and privacy.
Additions In Panda House
According to the architects, “the house, which originally had only one story, now has two storys and has won 2 extra rooms, a TV room, a bar, a BBQ bar, a pool and a large family terrace to have lunch and rest overlooking the sea.”
Atmosphere Changes When The Sun Goes Down
The Panda House completely changes when the sun goes down. Warm light invades the rooms and takes over the coldness of the white walls.
